Girvan Biomass Facility

Location: Girvan Scotland

Date: 2012

A biomass power plant constructed in Girvan Scotland. This is an innovative onsite biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant to supply process heat and electricity to the new wood pellet factory.

In a UK first, wood pelleting and Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) power turbine technologies are being brought together which will produce 60,000 tonnes of low carbon, premium quality virgin pellets a year, and over two megawatts of power.

Kane Engineering has designed and manufactured the LV Switchgear infrastructure for the site, including the supply of:

OCR Main LV switchboard rated at 3200A 50KA incorporating Schneider ACB c/w Micrologic 5.0

CHP switchboard 2500A 50KA incorporating Schneider ACB's incoperating surge arrestors, 9No MCCB feeder's and energy monitoring metering on a profibus network.

Pellet Line switchboard  3200A 50KA incorporating Schneider ACB's incorporating surge arrestors, 11No MCCB feeder's, energy monitoring metering on a profibus network. 100KVAR detuned power factor correction.

Front End Machinery switchboard  1600A 50KA incorporating Schneider ACB's incorporating surge arrestors, 18No MCCB feeder's, energy monitoring metering on a profibus network and 200KVAR detuned power factor correction.
